The Brokedown Palace is located in Washburn, Wisconsin, about ten miles south
of Bayfield, Wisconsin and the Apostle Islands. It's a cool old building that used to be
a bowling alley and has now been converted to a large bar with lots of seating and a
good sized dance floor. The area has several state and national parks, tons of camping areas,
bike trails, canoeing, sailing, hiking, and lots of bed and breakfast inns. The Palace is the place
for live music on Saturday nights and gets a great mix of locals and people up vacationing for
the weekend. The music goes till 1:30, but you need to leave earlier if you're staying on Madeline
Island since the ferry stops running before 1:00. If you want to get away for a weekend, this is a
great area to visit. I don't mean to sound like the Chamber of Commerce but this is where I met my
wife, Deb, so I've kind of got a soft spot for it.
