A FEW WORDS ABOUT GRANDE PRAIRIE
Although the individual members of Grande Prairie have played music in
a variety of styles for many years (ranging from blues to Baroque to Bulgarian),
it was their love of the music of southwest Louisiana that brought them
together in 1994. Since then they have performed regularly at Tapestry
Folkdance Center and the Mighty Fine Deli and Coffeehouse as well as at
neighborhood festivals and house parties. Their sound is definitely traditional
Cajun: accordion, fiddle, guitar, bass, triangle and harmonica, with vocals
in Cajun French. The influences of artists such as Amede Ardoin, Iry LeJeune,
Dennis McGee and Lionel LeLeux can be heard, as well as an occasional lick
borrowed from Wayne Toups.
