Mister RollsThis band has been playing around town with shifting membership for a few years and we finally decided to break down and give it a name and solidify the cast of players.The band is composed of Dan Rowles, of the Explodo Boys, on keyboards and guitar, Ted Klotz and Karl Smelker, of the Swamp Sextet and the Faux Playboys, on drums and bass, Greg Fleming-Wolfe, of WEDG and the Faux Playboys, on guitar and the mighty Max Ray, of the the Wallets, the X-Boys, Willie and the Bees, and the Explodo Boys on saxophone. We play music with a Louisiana flavor, but not hard core Cajun or Zydeco. This band has more of a New Orleans base. We play a lot of New Orleans R&B, Blues, Funk, and even some early New Orleans rock and roll. Lots of swinging piano based boogies from the hands of Mr. Dan Rowles. We also pull out the occasion tune by Van Morrisona and the Band. Some of the dance crowd has been coming out and enjoying the music. Lots of stuff to swing to as well as mambos, cha-chas and of course zydeco. I've been getting requests at Faux Playboy and New Riverside Ramblers gigs to add this band to the Upriver calendar.
